Portuguese history is full of personalities who, through their actions, thoughts, courage, creativity, and even weaknesses, shaped the country. Often, these notable figures were influenced by a "soulmate" — whether friend or foe, positive or negative — who inspired, completed, and motivated them.
"PORTUGUESE DUOS" is a 13-episode documentary series that tells the stories of these pairs who marked different eras in Portugal, from the medieval period to contemporary times, covering themes such as war, poetry, music, politics, and science. Each episode is a journey between two intertwined and complementary biographies, forming unique chapters narrated with the necessary historical accuracy, but with a touch of irony and lightness.
We had seen the original format of "SOUNDMIXSHOW" in the Netherlands and the quality of the singers was exceptional. When we started pre-producing our version in 1993, we wondered if there were singers in Portugal as good as the Dutch contestants. On the first day of auditions, we were all nervous... until the first candidate arrived. She chose a Whitney Houston song and as soon as she started singing... all our doubts disappeared. RAIN OF STARS was going to be a success... and it was!
"Chasing Life" is an action-comedy that follows Alex, a humble, 25-year old young man who, on the same day he discovers he has a terminal illness, is abandoned by his girlfriend. Desolate, he decides to end his life by poisoning himself. However, he receives the news that his medical tests were mistakenly swapped and that he is in perfect health. To complicate matters, his girlfriend decides to come back. Now, the last thing Alex wants is to die... but he has only four and a half hours to find the antidote.
The premiere of the Portuguese adaptation, made by D&D for RTP, of the British 'game show "THE WEAKEST LINK" marked television in Portugal in the 2000s. It was in 2002 that Júlia Pinheiro popularized the phrase: "You are the weakest link. Goodbye!"... A phrase that spread throughout the country, even reaching parliamentary debates.
In 2006, the country came together to select its Greatest Portuguese. To assist in this process, 10 documentaries were created about the 10 historical figures who emerged as finalists after months of voting. Each documentary presented the perspective of advocates for these figures, explaining why their chosen historical figure should be considered the Greatest Portuguese.
What if we could combine a game show with fiction, performed by some of the most renowned Portuguese actors? The answer was CLUEDO, adapted from the famous board game of the same name, where the actors had a blast inventing, along with the writers, a thousand and one ways to be murdered...
"PASSO LA PAROLA" combined the knowledge of grandmothers, parents' expertise, and children's irreverence into a unique game presented by Nicolau Breyner.

We took, ‘Joking Apart’ an original by Steven Moffat (Coupling, Doctor Who), and gave it a Portuguese twist, creating a comedy that follows the romantic misadventures of Mário (Miguel Guilherme) as he pursues his greatest goal in life: to win back the great love of his life, his ex-wife Marta (Rita Blanco).
For two years, we interviewed about 100 professionals from RTP, historians, journalists, sociologists, artists, and politicians. We watched over 500 hours of film and video archives to tell the story of the Portuguese public television broadcaster, RTP.
We produced the film "ESTORVO," based on the novel of the same name by Chico Buarque (one of the most famous brasilian musicians).
This film was part of the official competition at the 53rd Cannes Film Festival in 2000. It won the Grande Prêmio BR do Cinema Brasileiro and other awards for its cinematography, music, and direction. It premiered in 2000 in theaters in Argentina, Portugal, and Brazil.
For a year, we travelled across Portugal from north to south to reveal the most beautiful and lesser-known places in the country through this game of clues. In an era when drones were still science fiction, we showcased the aerial beauty of Portugal to the Portuguese for the first time. Through the eyes of the host, Catarina Furtado, we invited the audience to join us on a journey to explore castles, palaces, beaches, gardens, and all the treasures worth discovering and sharing with others.

After 'Chuva de Estrelas' and 'Caça ao Tesouro', we worked again with Catarina Furtado on 'Uma Noite de Sonho'. We searched for talents, from magic to classical music, from ballet to fado, and gave them a stage and even an orchestra. 'Uma Noite de Sonho' forced us to make an extraordinary effort in production... all so that our artists could have the night they had always dreamed of, a dream night.

In 2010, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic in Portugal, we created a video mapping spectacle called "THE CITIZENS' SQUARE." From the mythical arrival of Ulysses in Lisbon to the recent restoration of the Praça do Comércio, we narrated 1,000 years of history about what is today the most famous square in Lisbon.

This is the story of the Cordeiro family: Vítor, Tina, and Américo, who, due to various circumstances, find themselves forced to share the same house. Vítor Cordeiro, a nouveau riche, suddenly finds himself in poverty due to his "schemes" and a disastrous night at the casino. When the court decides that he is "no longer the owner of his assets," Vítor and his wife Tina are forced to move into the abandoned house of Vítor's great-aunt. From here, we follow Vítor's attempts to be rich again.
At the invitation of the Presidency of the Republic, D&D, in co-production with Praça das Flores, organized the programming for the Expo on June 10, 1998.
There were 56 shows and 22 performances, in addition to children's entertainment, involving over 1500 national or Portuguese-speaking artists.
The event featured top bands, jazz groups, classical music, fado, world music, and folk and ethnographic groups, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display, showcasing the diversity and quality of national artistic production.
All performances were filmed and broadcast live on various Expo screens, with D&D Audiovisuais in charge of the audiovisual project.
It was 14 consecutive hours of entertainment, making it a memorable day!
CHAMPIONS CLUB is a sitcom that metaphorically represents Portugal at the end of the 1990s: brimming with optimism but struggling with 'making do'... and low-quality football. The series follows a group of characters who play for, cheer on, and support the country's most amateur and hapless team.
We arrived in Rome in the summer of 1995 and entered the legendary CineCittà to film the craziest television program we had ever been involved in: Luna Park. Next to Studio 5 (the iconic studio where Fellini filmed), we camped for four months, creating a busy air bridge between Lisbon and Rome to bring dozens of Portuguese contestants and artists every week. This program was a format of RAI Uno.

We produced a gala for RTP to celebrate the arrival of 2005, with Fernando Mendes and Isabel Angelino as hosts. The special featured hilarious comedy sketches, starring Rita Blanco and Nicolau Breyner, among others. Additionally, the program was enhanced by musical performances from beloved artists such as Romana, Cristina Branco, Emanuel, and Marco Paulo.
AN UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT is a TV movie that blends film noir and comedy genres. The story begins with three longtime friends in their thirties, Tó (André Gago), Alberto (Alberto Faria), and Paulo (Lourenço Henriques), who, after a lively dinner, decide to follow Tó's suggestion—a married medical sales representative—and go to a nightclub in Spain near the border with Portugal. Alberto suffers a heart attack. The nightclub owners prevent them from calling an ambulance, and the friends leave with Alberto's lifeless body in the car's trunk. Still in Spain, they stop at a gas station, and the car gets stolen.
A mix of comedy show and reality TV, "THE WORST DRIVER EVER" hosted by Portuguese comedian, Bruno Nogueira, was an adaptation of the British format "BRITAIN'S WORST DRIVER" The show brought together the 13 worst drivers in Portugal (oddly enough, all licensed) to try to train them—with some laughs along the way—and ensure that when they returned to the roads, they would be less dangerous to other drivers and, of course, to themselves!

KEEPING UP WITH APPEARANCES premiered on the BBC and quickly became a success. Would it be possible to adapt such a quintessentially British sitcom for Portugal? And where could we find an actress to portray the indescribable and so British Hyacinth Bucket? Catarina Avelar took on the role and gave it a Portuguese twist.
Launched in 1999, "RI-TE, RI-TE" was the first major success of a new channel at the time, TVI. This comedy program combined jokes, candid camera and dance. With a live audience and a jury voting on the best jokes and antics brought to the stage by contestants, the show provided moments of pure entertainment and unforgettable laughter.
A comedy game show presented by José Pedro Gomes, broadcast in 1994. Two teams competed by telling jokes randomly. The audience was the jury, and for the first time in Portugal, a direct voting system was created for the stands: viewers voted "live" and the voting evolution was transmitted on a screen in the studio.
Is it a sitcom? A talk show? Or perhaps an interview program? "THE JIKA OF LAPA" is an innovative adaptation of the "KUMARS AT No. 42" format, blending multiple TV genres. The fictional part tells the story of a wealthy Angolan family, based in Portugal for 30 years. The youngest member, in his early twenties, believes his destiny is to become a "TV Mogul." This is where the crossover between comedy series and interview space begins. Guests include nationally renowned public figures such as artists, politicians, economists, and footballers.
The birth of Benfica TV saw significant contributions from D&D, which produced a variety of programs, including the documentary series "VICTORIES & HERITAGE". They also created the factual Tv shows "CHEERLEADERS", "SLB STARS", and "SUPPORTERS LIKE US", along with the quiz show THE BIGGEST BENFICA FAN". Additionally, we were responsible for producing the prestigious "Cosme Damião Awards" galas.
"LAUGHTER, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE" was a humour contest where three contestants competed by telling jokes. Each participant had the opportunity to showcase their comedic skills, trying to elicit laughs from the audience and impress the judges. At the end of each episode, the judges would vote and decide which contestant was the best joke-teller, crowning them the winner.
A commission for the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo’98 led us to assemble an international team of historians, makeup artists, prop masters, animators, cinematographers, and directors to recreate, using CGI, the story of the Portuguese arrival in Japan during the 16th century. It was an honour for us to bring the contents of the Portugal Pavilion at EXPO 98 to life through the production of three films: "MYTHS, DREAMS AND REALITIES", "THE VOYAGE", and "AQUARAMA".
The challenge was to create three areas of content that would surprise the thousands of visitors to the Portugal Pavilion, coming from all parts of the world. We opted to recreate – through CGI – the fantastical, magical realism, and tragic reality that surrounded Portuguese navigators in the 15th-16th centuries.

We have produced over 700 films for the museum's permanent exhibition, using video pieces to narrate the club's story through interactive installations. Often invisible, these staff members move silently and discreetly from room to room while visitors focus on the art.

After the success of our production of the Dutch format "SOUNDMIXSHOW," we thought, why not create a program focused on discovering actors? The idea was to find new talent to perform scenes from famous movies like Top Gun, Terminator, Silence of the Lambs, as well as plays by Tennessee Williams and Shakespeare. This involved an incredible effort in building sets, designing costumes, and creating props for each of the competitors.
Over the course of two years, we followed the construction of VdA's new headquarters. The result is a film that tells the story of the new offices from the architectural design project to the arrival of the lawyers at their new workplace.
